Bounce is an interactive virtual ball that moves and acts just like a real ball. Through the use of a standard web cam and a basic mac mini, the Bounce project allowed people to walk up and interact with the Bounce ball by jumping around or waving their arms and legs.
Developed as part of a design challenge to devise a system that could encourage the people of Brisbane to lead more active and healthy lives, Bounce provides users with a unique interactive experience. Designed to be deployed at bus, train or city cat stops, the objective of the Bounce project was to encourage people to get up and be active while waiting for public transport, rather than sitting and doing nothing.
As part of a University of Queensland project the Bounce team was presented with a brief to develop a physical computing project that would encourage healthier activity in peoples everyday life. From this broad brief came a very challenging design process that eventually produced the Bounce project.
